Getting throught trenuous flu

Since November I have had a period of constant sickness. Started with a typical flu, growing up to lose my whole voice for the whole week, and few weeks of strong fatigue and indisposition. In the end of December everything came back and with kind of feverish feeling, even if I didn't have any. Two days ago I opened my eyes and felt this dreadful pain in my throat. Please. NOT. Again.

When I had the flight back to Finland, the plane was planned to make a stopover in Copenhagen. Not only I booked this for the cheap price but because it's one of my favorite cities I haven't visited for a long time. Actually, only one time before.  I had to fly even if I was sick and some of you may know how PAINFUL it can be. For me it was even worse as we landed and my ears were clocked for the next few days. Sort of awkward to stop by the cafe and just nod firmly for the bartender as I couldn't hear his question (which he had to repeat...) Yet I wanted to have black filtered (oh Nordic) coffee after over two months. Tasted nostalgic after two-three moths of cafĂ© con leches or solos.
When I returned I headed for grocery purchases and medicine cabinet, ready for the recovery. Here are few things I do when I fall on the bed on horizontal level.

1. Ginger and lemon hot waters. Also honey
Ginger has a strong flavor which I like to use when I've lost my taste. It's also something what I put on food so I can taste and enjoy it better when I do lose my appetite.
Ginger is also good to relief muscle pain (this is something I haven't tried and observed yet). Also it has invigorating effect like the lemon does.

There no actual evidence that C-vitamin helps to get rid of the flu but helps to prevent infections. Citrus is good when you are feeling sick for many reasons which I'm going to list few ones.

  • During being sick we usually feel tired, unwell, nauseous... still lemon is fresh and help you to feel better and energetic.
  • You remember what is common between  lemon and  red meat? Some of you may remember after hearing that it's better to skip the dairy with iron-rich food, as these products make the iron harder to sink into the body. In contrast, C-vitamin helps the iron to absorb.
  • Citrus rinses the body from the toxins as it boosts the performance of our biggest viscelar organ - the liver.

I use honey especially when my throat is very sore or to ease coughing.  Besides, when you fell off-color, you want to have something sweet. Recommend to get that sweetness from honey than sugar as it provides  a breeding ground for germs.

2. Gargling the throat with salt water
Yep, it will taste bad but it will help for aching throat.

3. Try to relax but also try to avoid breakdown
For me I find this usually hard because after some time of resting I may get agitated feeling in my body. I must move as it starts to feel uncomfortable for being immobile for too long time. I have found that for me it's okay to move lightly, to take a little walk and grab some fresh air or make gentle yoga.  I explain that it's better to wake up your body a little bit than start to stress terribly for the rest of the day. I don't want to name myself as the person 'Breakdown'.

4. Relaxing hobby
I think that I never read or knit as much as in the time when I'm sick.

5. Let the fever help you to recover
Do you actually know why we get fever when we get infected? From the school we have learned what is the task of white blood cells: to destroy the intrudes. What the heat does is to make these protectors move faster to the inflamed part and also to destroy grems quicker. So don't crab immediately the pain killer bottle if you only have a bit fever.

5. Avoid touching your face
Your noose is running because it's trying to flush the bacteriums away. I don't want to put those lurgies back to my body by touching my itchy eyes.

Tell me what you are used to try when the disease hits you :)

Two days ago was such a wonderful sunny day. But after that it has been rainy and gloomy, a flood of slush days.  And they say it's going to be frost for now on for a moment. Slippery.

Few moments later

'A few moments later' as they use to say in Sponge Bob.

I have returned (back to this freezing land) with one experience richer. In the first hand, the idea was to stay for a longer time in Catalonia, but my host family deeply understood my desires to head back home. This contains the situation that I couldn't attend into academy to study Spanish. There was also problems with my free time as I felt I was bored. They got the picture and even drove me to the Barcelona for my flight, with the help of new few friends. The return trip was more exiting and sentimental than the arrive.

More and more I know that there is going to be people that you had a strong connection with but it can be that you never again will communicate to each other.

As my flight was supposed to leave at 8:30 AM, it might have been good to prepare for the leaving for few hours before. The flight was intented to make an 8 hour stopover in Copenhagen. I booked that certain flight just for that reason. I just love that city. But to be honest: visiting this city in the coldest month of the year is not the best idea as it's blowing ice cold wind from the sea. Imagine standing on the edge of the haven and the freezing wind hugs all your already dry skin until your face bursts.

In the last evening I had my last supper with my host family (in the same chain restaurant Tagliatella as we were in the first evening) and we also managed to waltz around some shops. We were in one boutique and I was immediately filled with joy when I saw one product I had been thinking to get some day. You know those maps that you can scratch the opaque covering away and it reveals something under it? Suchlike in the lottery games. One of the children heard my fancy for this and tricked me out of the shop with her sibling to look for the soaps in another shop. In the restaurant this map was passed for me over the whole meal table . And I was so happy about this so we asked for a tooth stick and scratched this area I lived for two months. Catalonia. Not the whole country -  Spain  - only Catalonia.
